Bill Rutlidge has been a valuable competitor to the game of soccer in Hamilton for many years. He started as a Director of the Hamilton City Soccer Club, Amateur League from 1952-1960.
Bill’s contribution to the Hamilton & District Association has been extensive. He was a member from 1953-1989 and president from 1966-68, 1970-1976, and 1988-1989. In 1990 Bill was honoured with a Life Member of the Hamilton & District Soccer Association.
From 1960-1986 Bill was President of the Ontario Inter-City Soccer League. He then went on to be a Soccer Administrator for the Hamilton Steelers Soccer Club. His contributions continued from 1991-1994 as Chairman of the local organizing committee for the Canadian Soccer Association Inter-Provincial Championships. He also served as a committee member for the World University Games and Hamilton Sports Council. Following this Bill was President of the Hamilton Sports Council from 2001-2004 and Sponsorship Director with the Canusa Games.
Bill Rutlidge has been given due recognition as he has received the Archibald (Coggie) Hugh Merrit Award (1990), the Distinguished Service – Special Commendation Award, City of Hamilton (1990), the Hamilton Sesquicentennial Celebration Committee Soccer Award (1996) and the Meritorious Service Award – Ontario Soccer Association (1998).
