William B McIlveenDirector - Sponsorship & Fundraisng

    William is a founding member of the HSHOF executive committee. He emigrated from Glasgow Scotland in 1967 and immediately began playing soccer for Linden Park coached by John Simpson and Ces Taylor. He attended Sir Winston Churchill high school and won the public school Championship in 1971. In 1972 Bill joined Hamilton City Soccer Club of the NSL in 1973 and followed them as they became Welland Lions Croatia. He then played with St Catherines Roma in the NSL coached by John McNeil.

    Simultaneously he played in the National League senior and U23. Bill played in the National League for 9 Years winning both the Second Division league and playoffs. In 1981 he moved to the Inter City League with Thorold Italia and in 1982 he move back to Hamilton Serbians followed by Hamilton Sparta, the 1983 Spectator Cup winners. Bill played for Dofasco men’s team for a total of 15 years followed by the Dofasco Oldtimers for an additional 30, also serving as the league president for 3 years.

    Bill got selected to represent Hamilton & Niagara District at the Ontario Championship in 1973 winning the gold in 1975. Nine players from that selection got picked to play for Ontario for a 3 week trip to London England. Area players included Al Robinson, Greg Weir and Valdi Greco. The coach of the district team was Dan McClardy and the Ontario team was Frank Pike. In 1976, thanks to John  McGrane, Bill got a try out for the Los Angles Aztec where he also got to play and train with George Best and Ron Davies.

    Bill refereed for 8 years starting in 1985 and started coaching both boys and girls in house and rep teams with Phil Cassidy at Mount Hamilton Youth Soccer club in 1988, and also served on the rep executive for the club for 25 years. Bill has been involved with the Canusa Games for 15 years as a director and coach for boys’ soccer and is still involved. Bill’s many other involvements includes coaching  two years with Sir Winston Churchill high school girls soccer, Director of the Hamilton Soccer Hall of Fame from the beginning to the present, a participant in the Pan Am games as a host of team Mexico . He’s also the manager of I.A.M. Hamilton  Emeralds oldtimers for the last 3years.
