Robert Skaljin is a native of Hamilton. From the age of 8 and throughout his teenage years Rob grew up playing soccer locally with teams representing the Hamilton Croatian Community. Rob’s youth experience also included playing on Winona and Sherwood High Schools soccer teams.
Rob has been actively involved in coaching soccer over the past 15 years. At the youth level he has coached boys and girls teams at all levels including House League, HDMJSCL, SRSL Premier and GHSL Elite divisions at Stoney Creek, Ancaster and Burlington Youth Soccer Clubs.
In 2007, Rob founded Sons of Italy Hamilton FC (Federazione Calcio), which plays in the Hamilton & District Old-timers Soccer League, with the goal of providing a positive and competitive soccer experience for those who love the “beautiful game” and to promote the game of soccer within the City of Hamilton’s Italian Community. Since its inception, SOI Hamilton FC has grown to multiple Men and Women’s team that compete in recreational and competitive leagues across Hamilton District. Rob is both the Manager and a player for the club’s first team SOI FC “Trieste” and currently serves as the club’s administrative secretary.
With the support of Festitalia Corp. and the SOI FC organization’s sponsorship, Rob also organizes the Annual Calcio Master’s Cup as part of Hamilton’s Festitalia Celebrations held annually in September. In 2017, Robert was recognized at the Festitalia Italian Heritage Awards dinner in the category of Sports for his contributions towards promoting Italian culture within the Hamilton Soccer community.
Rob serves as the treasurer for the both Hamilton & District Old-timers Soccer League, HDMJSCL and the Hamilton Soccer Hall of Fame.
Rob and his wife Nancy make their soccer home in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada along with their four children Adriana, Nicholas, Lucas and Juliana.
